What is a PMUC-certified filament?
PMUC stands for "Produits et Matériaux Utilisables en Centrale" (Products and Materials for Use in Power Plants). This is an essential industrial certification, required by major energy sector contractors such as EDF. For a material to be PMUC-certified, it must comply with very strict chemical specifications, including extremely low levels of halogens (chlorine, fluorine, etc.) and sulfur.
The presence of even traces of these elements can cause stress corrosion on critical metal alloys (such as stainless steels) used in sensitive installations. The use of our PMUC-certified filaments therefore guarantees the safety and durability of infrastructures.
Our range of PMUC filaments
PMUC certification guarantees the chemical composition of the filament. The mechanical and thermal properties and printing requirements remain those of the base polymer. We offer this certification on several of our technical materials to cover all your needs:
- PLA-PMUC: For simple tooling, positioning jigs and visual prototypes not requiring high thermal or mechanical resistance.
- PETG-PMUC: The excellent compromise. Offers good mechanical and chemical resistance, while being easier to print than ABS/ASA.
- ABS-PMUC & ASA-PMUC: For end-use parts, heavy-duty tooling or parts that must withstand high temperatures (up to 100°C). ASA-PMUC adds superior UV resistance for outdoor applications.
How to choose the right PMUC material?
Your choice should be based on the final application of your part:
| Certified material | Thermal Resistance | Ease of printing | Main use |
|---|---|---|---|
| PLA-PMUC | ★★ (approx. 60°C) | ★★★★★ (Easy) | Simple tooling, prototypes |
| PETG-PMUC | ★★★ (approx. 80°C) | ★★★★ (Medium) | Functional parts |
| ABS/ASA-PMUC | ★★★★★ (approx. 100°C) | ★★ (Demanding) | High-T° end-use parts |
Typical applications
- Tools, jigs and fixtures for use in controlled areas.
- Temporary protective caps and plugs.
- Custom-made sensor supports and housings.
- Functional prototypes for validation before machining.
Francofil's commitment: Reliability and traceability
Producing a PMUC-certified filament requires total control of the supply and production chain. By manufacturing these filaments in our workshop in Normandy, we guarantee complete traceability of raw material batches and rigorous quality control. Each spool is produced in strict compliance with PMUC specifications, ensuring total conformity for your most critical applications.
