PLA Coproducts: Eco-friendly, local 3D printing
Our range of Co-Produced PLA filaments is the fruit of our commitment to innovation and the circular economy. More than just a filament, it's a 100% biosourced and local approach. The principle is simple: we use a premium PLA base, to which we add a "filler" derived from the recovery of waste (co-products) from French industries.
- 100% Biobased: The filament is made from PLA (derived from corn starch) and natural by-products.
- Circular Economy: We give a second life to local waste (shellfish, wheat, coffee...).
- Unique visual appearance: each co-product gives the filament a unique color and texture (speckled, fibrous, mineral...).
- 100% Normandy manufacturing: Everything is produced and controlled in our workshop near Le Havre.
Our approach to local development
We work in direct partnership with local players to recover their by-products:
- Shellfish (mussels, oysters, scallops): Recovered from the port of Dieppe, they give a mineral appearance and a light hue.
- Wheat: Wheat bran, from a nearby flour mill, has a fibrous appearance and a natural beige color.
- Marc de Café: Collected from local roasters, it gives a dark color and fine speckling.
Why choose a co-produced PLA filament?
This filament is aimed at makers concerned about their environmental impact and looking for an original aesthetic finish. It combines the ease of printing of PLA with a natural, often matte visual finish, which helps mask the printing layers.
Typical applications
- Decorative items (vases, pots...)
- Artistic pieces and figurines
- Everyday objects of natural design
Printing tips for PLA Coproducts
Our filled filaments print very similarly to standard PLA. However, the presence of natural particles (wheat, shells) makes them slightly more abrasive than conventional PLA.
- Recommended nozzle: A standard brass nozzle works, but for intensive use we recommend a hardened steel nozzle to avoid premature wear.
- Nozzle diameter: A 0.4 mm nozzle works well, but for highly charged filaments (such as wheat), a 0.6 mm nozzle reduces any risk of clogging and offers a more even finish.
- Adhesion: A tray heated to 50-60°C is recommended, as for standard PLA.
